That black wood is beautiful any idea what part of the state it'came from?
I run a sawmill on the north west and cut mainly black wood.

Some recent aquisitions....

Figured mahogany, curl in one side , quilt on the other...

15-1/2" wide boards of northern ash and honduras mahogany for solid body blanks:

"Quilted" macassar ebony...

Couldn't get a good picture of this. Quilted maple that I boolmatched for a Tele top. Goes from tubular quilt to lost a "popcorn" quilt, with some burl clusters to boot...

I have been dying to build with this cocobolo for years. It will need to be a 4-piece back, but with this much ink, it is easy to hide the joint.
I got it at the local Rockler - three planks of the most pathetic looking grungy old oxidized wood you ever saw. Literally looked like creosote soaked railroad ties. I'd seen them in there for at least a year and passed them over - like everyone else - until I decided to take a closer look and scraped a small corner clean.

Chuck, that sure looks like zircote.

Some nice stuff there... keep it coming!

Hey Judd, it sure does, but I can assure you it is cocobolo. The smell and the color (in person) is unmistakable.
