Fancy figured woods...
Thought it would be cool to start a thread with some nice woods you may have collected along the way, waiting for that special project.
I have to get the pics from my phone the 'hard' way but will get some pics up in a bit...

I've posted this before on the old forum, but wanted to test pics here. It's Tasmanian Blackwood.

Re: Wood porn...
Little bit of Birdseye
Shedua
Some "odd" colored quilt maple, and the color is due to horse urine!
Small stick of eastern hard maple with very small blister figure
Sapele???
Figured cherry 2in thick stock
Local maple harvested and spalted by my cousin
China Berry Tree
I have a very large board of "the tree" and am trying to get it verified. I will post photos of that later as well as some other goodies!

Re: Wood porn...
I have been dying to build with this cocobolo for years. It will need to be a 4-piece back, but with this much ink, it is easy to hide the joint.
I got it at the local Rockler - three planks of the most pathetic looking grungy old oxidized wood you ever saw. Literally looked like creosote soaked railroad ties. I'd seen them in there for at least a year and passed them over - like everyone else - until I decided to take a closer look and scraped a small corner clean.

Hey Judd, it sure does, but I can assure you it is cocobolo. The smell and the color (in person) is unmistakable.
