Hi all- we renamed this thread since the "p" word may be partly responsible for a recent onslaught of spam (sorry- probably should've done that earlier as some of you have mentioned).

Good, now what sorts of spam are we going to get based on the word "stash"?

I believe this is some redwood burl that I picked up some years ago. I would like to use it as a top on a LP with mahogany body and thru-neck. It is about 3/8" thick, and somewhat porous, but nothing larger than pinholes. Any advice on sanding, sealing, laminating would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Dan.

Advice would depend on whether it is in fact redwood burl. Can we get a closer shot?

Georgia O'Keefe's art suffered the same criticism from some in the art world.
I too wish there was a better title for threads like this.

I just picked up a piece of curly hickory. Very bold curl in it, I'll have to post some pictures later. It should work nicely on a neck through electric or a smaller electric body

Here is one of two cherry boards I have been hoarding for a couple years. Both are 4/4. This one is 1x9, the other 1x12 (It's buried at the moment!). Also a kitchen bench I made from two feet of this board...

I don't like spending a lot of money on wood... Fortunately I've lucked myself into some nice pieces:
This is claro walnut, about 2-1/4" thick x about 9" x about 35"... I want to get this resawn, but haven't had the heart to cut it up, at least just yet.

One of these days I hope to have the right timing to get to see Rick Hearne's personal stash. (Rick is a major hardwood dealer out of Oxford, PA, if you were unfamiliar) Rick has a personal collection of only ten boards, which is a promise he made to himself in order to avoid becoming a hoarder. I remember walking into his office one time and seeing a board of maple that was perfectly uniformly quilted top to bottom, side to side, front to back, with a perfectly uniformly sized, absolutely stunning quilting pattern, the board being about 8/4, 10" wide and maybe 6' long. For sale? No, PRS Guitars had purchased it when it had been there about a day - it was getting shipped out the following Monday. The board was amazing - way more stunning than anything I have ever seen anyone post on a forum. (Anything!)
"So, Rick, would that have been close to making it into your personal stash?"
"No, not really"
Got to see that someday.
