Well wishes for 2025 in and out of the shop!

Post by Bryan Bear »

I've been without a shop for the last two years (and it will be some time before the new one is set up), so I haven't been doing much. Hopefully in the new year, I'll be checking in here more often and eventually have something to add to discussions again.

I just want to wish you all happy holidays and hopes that the new year treats you all well. What kind of projects do yo all have lined up?

For me, I am waiting for spring to get the new sliding doors installed in my shop space. I hope to install floors late January. Then I can start moving in the workshop stuff and setting up! The next thing will be sorting out where I left off on my half built curly white oak double O.

Happy Holidays to you and yours too, Bryan. And everyone else too.
I'm working on a L00 and just did a picture tutorial on layered solid linings that I got the idea from you. Thanks! https://acousticguitarconstructionforum ... php?t=3562

NIce tute! I like the stepped width idea. I do mine a little different in that I clamp in the first (segmented) layer unglued, then glue layers 2 and 3 over them (not gluing to the reinforcements). Once it is cured, I take the linings out (since they aren't glued to the rim) and plane the inside flat/flush. Then they snap right back in place with glue. Since I plane mine flat, linings have a squarish profile. With your method, I could plane them flush but keep that angle on the inside giving a profile kinda' like more traditional kerfed linings.

Good wishes and hale body to you and everyone here for this next year! My instrument projects get shuffled around, but between home improvements and gigging, I hope to finally get after a long-planned set of Sutton Hoo-inspired lyres. Made of local hardwoods, one for my music history class, one for my good friend in the SCA, one to screw up!
