Happy New Year.
when fretting a flat fingerboard Is it desirable to prebend the fretwire bit so that you can hammer in each end and then from the middle out like on a radiused fretboard .

I was thinking of making a flat insert for my fret press but I don't like the idea,.

What works? :o)

Thanks, Rob.

I got a fret pressing device from an Etsy vendor who offered a flat caul so I got one. Haven't used it yet because most of the boards I fretted lately are 20". They are available.

Yes, you should have a bit of curvature in the fret wire because this minimizes the fret ends from springing up. And to press the frets you should have a caul that matches the fretboard (ie; flat).
