Walnut / Redwood Soprano

This is a long scale soprano ukulele that I recently made as a gift for my parents. The walnut back, sides, and headplate came from walnut logs that were cut down on my grandparents' property about 30 years ago. My dad (a furniture builder) arrived after the trees had been bucked up into 12" lengths for firewood. He saved a couple of the larger pieces and passed them on to me recently. I came up with the idea to make three-piece sides by adding a short filler piece at the heel. This is the second one I made this way and it works out well, and I have enough wood to make several more from the same logs. The top is sinker redwood from California.
