Archtop Binding length

Post by Fernando Esteves »

Hi!
I'm about to build an archtop, Benedetto style, and having trouble with the dimensions of the binding.
Saw some 65"/1650mm ones to sell, but the guy only has 2 of these... The drawing I've of archtop 17" body says it's 1690mm (66,5").
As I'm binding top and back, for this measure, it's not enough, but the drawing was made by me long ago and is far from precise...

Any experience on this????
Thanks

If you have the plans, take some string and lay it around the perimeter of the body, then measure it.

If you are looking for plastic PVC "Bolteron" type binding you can go to your local cabinet shop and buy several feet of 1" wide PVC edge banding . It comes in several thicknesses (1/2,1,2,3 mm) and costs pennies per foot.
It can also be bought through Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/White-edgebandin ... B06XD3LVNC
You can go to the JSO website and see all the colors and materials available (wood edgebanding also):
https://www.jsowoodproducts.com/product ... gebanding/
Disclaimer: I have never bought from these sellers, but I use PVC edgebanding I bought else ware to bind guitars.
