Have you tried PegHeds? They're geared, but they look and work just like regular friction pegs except for being easier to tune. They make a ukulele size that should work well for that. They're a bit expensive, but worth it IMO.

Yes, I've tried them before (a customer wanted them for a lute I was building for them). They worked well.

Beautiful work Jo. I've never tried an instrument with tied frets but assume they take some getting used to as you would feel them as you were sliding your hand up and down the back of the neck?
