As for the materials, since casting bronze is not a common skill these days, I'd suggest that the slide lock be made from baltic birch plywood, or fashioned from a piece of steel bar stock, bent and welded.

At the risk of overdoing something that is already excellent, I wonder if some sort of socket plate on the floor might be useful. Also, maybe one could make the lower part that bears against the bench in an octagonal shape to add more working positions
