Griot Garage 3" RO Polisher

Post by Steve Sawyer »

This polisher came up in a discussion on another thread. The polishing pads are sold separately, and I'm not sure which ones would be best for use on guitar finishes. There are three that are shown with that listing - Orange, black and red.

Any suggestions as to which would be a good choice are appreciated.

Normally you want firm pads for the initial cut and soft pads for final polishing. Rather than buying their pads I would get the pads recommended for the specific compound you will be using. In other words, you are not locked into using Griot pads but can use any 3" hook and loop pad.

What compound(s) do you plan on using?

Thanks, Barry. What I have in the stash that I'm planning on using is the Meguiar's product line:

  • M105 Mirror Glaze Ultra-Cut Compound
  • Meguiar's M9 Mirror Glaze Swirl Remover 2.0
  • Meguiar's M7 Mirror Glaze Show Car Glaze

I really like the Meguiars microfiber pads with the M105. Then a soft foam pad with the swirl remover.

I did some searching for the Mequiars microfiber pads, Barry. I went to the Meguiars web site, and don't see anything in a 3" diameter.
