Google Map of the MIMF

Post by Ryan Mazzocco »

This was a thought that just occurred to me. What do you think about setting up a google map that the members can access from a link on the forum in which members can mark their location? It wouldn't be mandatory of course, but it might be neat to be able to visualize where everyone is from. I certainly understand the need for safety and privacy so maybe we wouldn't mark our exact address, but at least mark the general vicinity of where ever we do most of our work.
I took the liberty of creating the map. The way this should work is just click the link below and, if logged into a google account, you should have access to be able to edit and mark your location on the map.
Or if everyone thinks it dumb I'll just shut it down.

Yep, pretty cool.
I'm marked after some initial confusion. You have to click on the location icon in the floating tool bar...

I marked the general area. This should be fun to see them come rolling in.

Awesome! thanks to everyone that has already marked their location. Yeah, it can be a bit confusing if you've never done it before, so if anyone just cannot figure it out, or don't have the patience you can just PM me where you want it and I'll mark it for you.

Thank you to everyone who has participated. I kinda forgot that I started this and was just looking over it. Looks like it's fallen off in the last few years. I thought I'd give it a bump and see if we can get more people involved again.
It's just for fun. And if you're traveling, it could be a good resource to find forum friends to meet up with on your way. Who doesn't like to meet up with other luthiers and talk shop for an hour or two.

If a map is wanted i would suggest using the open street maps services instead. Just because of data protection reasons.
