Ive always run my stiffeners from the nut to the end of the heel.This has alway seemed to work although as prevously stated I have had issues where it seemed I wasnt getting enough adjustment from my 2 way rods. I watched a vid from Luthier Frans Elferink and he seemd to show a different method . He ran his stiffeners from about the 17th fret back up to maybe the 4-5 fret. showing flexibility where you need it the most and same with stiffness.Seems to make sense right? So im wondering what forum members here think of the rearrangement of the stiffeners. I wish I knew how and why he came to this conclution.

Much depends on the strings you design the guitar for, and how thick or thin your neck is. I make the deepest part of the relief around the 7th fret.

I like an even curve for my neck relief along the whole neck, so I use thin carbon bars through the entire neck, from the heel up past the nut into the headstock.

speaking of strings, are you thinking about neck tension for heavy or lighter strings ? on this project I used d'addario flat lights 11-50 with a wound 20 G string. The buyer and others said it fit very well and was comfortable to play. I doubt Ill adopt Elferinks method, Ive always done a full length stiffener,im jigged up for it too. I'm just always curious about alternate methods and why !!!
