90 degree layout tool

Butt a hunk of acrylic against a flat surface. Butt a drafting triangle against the surface and score a line with an Exatco blade.
I use this tool frequently for laying out perpendiclular lines and aligning pickup rings.

Do you look through the sheet with the scored line on the top or bottom?

I do this to all my pickup routing templates as well to help me keep everything centered. I find that a line top and bottom can be helpful (if you can line them up exactly.)

When I wanted to locate the 'visual interest features' -- i.e. the nail holes in this salvaged redwood --so that they would lie to close or over a brace, I made up this template with 1/8" acrylic and a photocopy from Kinkos. I drilled tiny holes through the template at the centerline and the junctions of all the braces, sides, & bridge plate, to mark the locations with 0.5mm pencil dots. It worked ok for me.

wipe a little ink or graphite into the score line to see it better.
