Hello,
I attached some pictures of my romanian caval where you can see a metal ring that keeps the part where the two pieces unite from spliting.
Do you have any idea about how that ring is made? It looks like it is made from a pice of metal sheet, but i don't know how the two ends are clamped togheter to be so sturdy.

The joint is probably soldered.

Why not a piece of brass tube?

Lots of sizes to choose from.

Here in Romania is hard to get those kind of things in small quantities.
I could get copper pipe easily but i think that it can be too thick. I will need to make a groove in the wood to make it flush.

If you have an electric drill and some patience you can file copper while it is turning but this looks very thin.
More like sheet goods.

Yes it is very thin. I saw some turkish videos about Ney and Dilli Kaval making, bit they used what it looks like silver sheet that they soldered before mount it on tje flute. On my Caval (romaniam kaval) it looks like it's folded somehow...

why not find a piece of pipe with the appropriate inside diameter, mate it onto your wood and then work down the outer thickness slowly being careful not to overheat it?

Seems the easiest to me also.

It is the easiest, but i was courious about the traditional way of making it.

Traditional was probably hammering the sheet into a round and then closing the flange where they intersect. Look for Japanest tool makers on you tube I saw some similar rounds on saws (I think).

Once again far too late...
there was no traditional way. the whole thin metal ring is a completely new technique. In the good old times they used horn rings, ivory rings (totally hopeless as a real help) and simply a thicker portion of the woodturning. You will be hard pressed to find any original metal rings on any real old instrument.
By the way, you can always use the really traditional tin inlay technique...
