compensation on a Uke
So, how much compensation is right for a Soprano Uke?

Between 2 and 3 mm, depending on which strings you use and the action height. Using Aquila Nylguts and 2.5mm action at the 12th, I end up with pretty much 2.5mm compensation.
I'd suggest setting the front of the saddle at +2mm and then adjusting back once you're strung up. If you really want to be flash you could compensate each string individually. But a straight saddle will get your G, E and A strings as close as a uke ever is, while leaving the C just a fraction under-compensated. Most players who play up at the dusty end are used to this, and compensate unconsciously using finger pressure.
