I'm building the bass for a friend, he's a Vic Wooten fan and loves to slap so this is tailored for that.

Neck - 24 fret 14" radius medium jumbo frets hard rock maple w/ flame maple fretboard
Body . Flame maple top and back lacewood / curly douglas fir core
Pickups EMG "Vic Wooten" set
Gold HW

Very nice! I plan to use Doug fir as electric body and/or core, as well. Please report on how that works out (weight, tonally, etc.).

so far no , the lacewood core is lightweight.

applied some vintage lemonade stain to bring out the figure, I"ll be backsanding the top to get back to a more natural look

That is a very nice piece of wood James. Nice color you've decided on too.

Did you use a Carvin Thru neck?

I am assuming that you used thin veneer, or did you cut down the center section to allow for a curly maple top?

the top is 3/8" from Northridge . I don't use veneers . Yes the neck is a Carvin , I've been using them for 15 years , always well made and good service.

I route the center channel with a dremel / stew mac jig .

6 coats of french polish , sanded down to 600 (wet/dry) then 4 coats of lacquer , 1 more round before the buff out

PS , in regards to the neck , I plane the body portion to allow for the top thickness . on some instruments the back may get the same treatment
