Gibson WM-00 Finish

If you have a string instrument of any kind that needs fixing, a mistake you made in building a new instrument that you need to "disappear," or a question about the ethics of altering an older instrument, ask here. Gibson WM-00 Finish

Post by Dave Gentner »

A store that I do a lot of work for gave me a 1999 Gibson WM-00 that somebody had stripped the finish off the top (they actually did a good job). They want me to reshoot the top. The back and sides are satin, so I asked if they wanted the top satin or gloss. After some time their customer responded that I should just make it like it was originally. If I knew what it was originally I wouldn't have asked the question. Does anyone know what the original finish was on these guitars?

Here's a discussion that indicates the top was gloss.

Thanks Joshua, I was hoping it was gloss.
