I just got a new tablet tonight, my first (yes a little late to the party as usual) and was wondering what, if any, apps are useful for lulthiers.

The screen is nice and flat, for a Scary Sharp session on the go!

Good question, though. I suppose it depends on what you got. I'm writing this on a Kindle Fire, and while it's cool for ebooks and general browsing, there's no camera or microphone or other options for hooking up peripheral gadgets. The Fire HD has some of that, but it seems like the iPad is where it's at for the myriad available apps. I've not played with the Surface or Chromebook.

I like Pitch Lab for tuning and on the playing side Metronome Beats. Android operating system on a tablet.

I tried downloading the 1200 wet/dry paper for my Scary Sharp setup on my iPad, but I can't tell the difference between it and the 800 grit...

There aren't really any apps for a kindle or nexus but there's plenty of uses. If you don't get your wi fi in the workshop get a range extender like I did. Use your kindle to...look up luthier videos...order from ebay...find out how to measure fan frets...identify electronic components by picture...see who's contributed to this thread....go to other forums and play spot the sycophant, one of my favourites.....check out what different manufacturers mean by Rosewood (the definition varies..Fender, Martin, Taylor and others arevery honest about what they use...others define rosewood/rosewood/rosewood laminate as rosewood, ignoring the glue) and see if you can actually buy that £500 all solid wood acoustic A+++ was having reviewed. You couldn't but it was great advertising) once you have tablet pc in the workshop there's a load of uses, just don't play games on it. You're there to work.

A bit off topic, but

One of my favorites also. Never heard the word "sycophant" --- love it!

One of my "hobbies" is observing the "personalities" of groups, forums, cultures, and governments, and how just one or two sycophants can drastically alter the "aroma" of the group --- steer it in a downward spiral.

Yep --- gonna add the word "sycophant" to my repertoire.
