Looks like LMII has discontinued their white Instrument Maker's Glue and replaced it with a yellow version: http://www.lmii.com/products/finishing/ ... ument-glue

I just switched from Titebond to the white glue in December, and both bottles I bought gelled up in the bottles within a few weeks to a month of being opened (despite being stored in a ziplock bag). LMII is sending out the new yellow glue as free replacements. I may give it a shot, though I'm hesitant to test products without an established track record, especially on guitars that I'm not keeping myself.

I know HHG is the gold standard around here, but I'm looking for a non-animal based alternative that has good creep resistance and is reversible. I was optimistic that LMII white was it based on user reports.

Sounds good to me. I know the folks at LMII and they are trustworthy. When they tell you the glue has been tested and used with good results you can believe them, after all, they have a reputation to uphold. If you are still unsure of the glue do some tests yourself and let us know what you come up with. I have confidence in the products they sell.

I'll miss the old white glue. I used it frequently, and I preferred it to Titebond. I hope the new stuff is more like the old white glue than Titebond.

Me too. I really liked their old "Instrument Makers Glue". It was great for lots of uses, and dried staying fairly clear when thin. It was also very hard after drying.

The LMI rep said the new yellow glue should perform as well or better than the discontinued white glue in terms of creep and hardness.

Is their a standardized test for glue creep? If so, what is it, and how long would it take to perform? I see a lot of people talking about creep, but I have never seen anybody measure it. A while back, I remember reading an article about glue hardness that was done. It seems there was some debate about the validity of the test protocol, but at least somebody was trying to give some empirical data. Everybody always says that PVA glues all creep (and they tend to do it very emphatically, and sometimes with a bit of rudeness, as well), and hot hide glue does not, and I have never seen any test that shows how much or if this is really true.

Well, keep the glue joints close fitting so there isn't much glue in them and you should be fine. and don't leave an instrument in a car in the summertime or you WILL see glue creep. It gets softer as it gets hotter.
