Hi,

what do you use with Cocobolo? French polishing? PU? nitro? water based?.....and what about pore filling?

thanks

Cedric,
I've used French polish and been very happy with the results. A couple things can help avoid frustration.
1. Wipe the bindings first with a fold of cloth with shellac on it , until they are thoroughly protected from dragging stain over into them from the cocobolo ( I used maple bindings).
2. On the Cocobolo, use rapid strokes with a nearly dry munica until there is no staining on the cloth. Going heavy with the shellac results in the resins of the wood dissolving in the alcohol and smearing the color around. You want the munica dry enough that the alcohol flashes off almost instantly, leaving no time for the alcohol in the shellac to dissolve resins

As to the pores, I've used epoxy and I've used CA and both work fine. Just leave enough time for it to shrink back before final sanding.

Z-poxy works great for pore fill and it doesn't make the color run. Varnish top coat is my favorite.

I like to start slow, then taper off.
