La Dolce Vita
I designed and made a new steel string a few months ago, la dolce vita.
My own shape design with art deco (ish), 3D "rosette" and my new soft edge detailing where the "binding" is laid horizonatally.
Lattice internal bracing, sounds wonderful.

Re: La Dolce Vita
Murray,
Extremely glad to see you posting her. I was afraid we might have lost one of the most inspirational builders of our era ( that's an attempt to keep you designing these things<g>)
The headstock design accommodates the straight string run better than I think I've ever seen. It just looks natural instead of how goofy they sometimes end up looking to deal with the machine offsets.
Any chance of posting some closeups of the beauty? These photos don't enlarge much when you click on them, and I can't really see that much all that well.

Beautiful body shape. Really nice headstock.
I wish I could see the "Horizontal Binding" you speak of, a bit more clearly.
I am a fledgling builder, so I'm not even sure what lattice internal bracing is!! Can you enlighten me?

I need your help. I can't possibly make all the mistakes myself!

Thanks fellows. This detail should show the rosette and edge detail better.
I'll also see if I can find a construction pic. The back is lovely Madagascar.

Re: La Dolce Vita
You may have noticed that this is a heel-less design.
I figured this way, access to higher frets is a bit better and I believe there is more wood contact which should improve sustain (maybe).

Re: La Dolce Vita
So, your binding is just side purfling with the top edge rounded over to it: nothing on the end grain. Do you install this after attaching the top, or is it simply laid down as a layer between the top and side/liners? Very soft - both visually and tactily.

Murray, I almost missed this one and La Vita. They are both excellent, as usual, and I think the edge treatment is very exciting. Congratulations.

Hi Murray,
I have thought about doing a guitar with a similar edge treatment but couldn't decide how I wanted to thin the plate but still retain the thickness at the edge. Any advice?

Re: La Dolce Vita
I had veneer lay-ons made in 2 colours. 1,2mm thick in total and laid it on the sides (which have triple laminated linings).
Then I uses an eliptical section router bit to round off the top.
