Humidifier Recommendations?

Post by David Bingham »

Can anyone recommend a decent room humidifier? It's that time of year and the old crappy one I have has crapped out.

Hunter makes a couple with metal filters that don't require replacement. The ones with the replaceable filters aren't good because you don't and then they don't work. If you don't need a humidistat and he room isn't too big, the ultrasonic ones are relatively quiet, cheap, and easy to use.

I have this one from Sears. Going-on about 12-14 years, trouble-free. I replace the filters every 2 years. Yes, 2 years. If you have hard, nasty water, your mileage will differ. It's whisper-quiet because I can run it on its lowest fan settings, and if I want, can even disconnect one fan and enjoy an even quieter experience. On high, it can pump out 10+ gallons/day, and while nobody really needs that much capacity, it's nice to have the ability to put that much water into the air when I'm using the spray booth, as the blower exhausts all the air from the shop and replaces it with cold, bone-dry air...

Cant beat it for value.

I have a humidifier that looks pretty much just like that one. I plumbed in a cheap float valve and a drip irrigation line so I don't have to tend to adding water. It takes care of itself except for the two or three times a year changing the filter wicks due to hard water. Most of the time I forget it is there, and it keeps my 720 sq. ft. shop at a fairly stable RH. You could pay more but I doubt you would get much better RH control.
