I'm making a fretless banjo neck for an old Sears 10" metal clad pot.
What is the setup for a fretless banjo?
What is the string heights at the nut and 12th fret?
Should there be any relief in the fingerboard?
Fretless is new to me.

Pretty much set up like a fretted version but measuring to the fingerboard instead of the frets that aren't there. Yes, should have a little relief, maybe about .010" where your nonexixtant 7th fret would be. It depends on the scale length and gauges of strings.

I've gotta say steel strings with fretless are not my favorite. However, some people are using a metal (german silver or brass) plate covering the fingerboard, especially for the first five or seven positions. I think this would help balance the volume between stopped and open strings (this imbalance is what I mostly object to about using steel strings on fretless). It's something worth thinking about.
