A different project, dresser refi

Post by Eric Baack »

With a baby on the way we needed another dresser so we pulled this one out of my wife's grandmother's old house. It is around 100 years old and was in dire need of a refinish. somewhere along the way it was stained really dark, Parts of it were painted white it looks like and someone attempted to refinish it but sanded through the veneer in places so I applied new veneer and have a bit of sanding to do before I do the rest of the refinish work.

Here are some shots of the drawer fronts with cracks and the overzealous sander:

The rest of it is sealed with some poly. I didn't work so hard to sand off the inside of the cabinet, more just what would be visible with the drawers open.

Here's the completed dresser! The finish isn't as clear as I wanted but I also didn't want to burn through the clear. It looks good where it is in the room though

I'll be the first one to post.

Nice job! I'd have preferred french polish for the acoustic transparency ;p.

In all seriousness, it matches the trim in the room well.
Good job on giving second life to some fine furniture.

I figured minwax was adequate for this one ;)
