I am looking for some red veneer for an electric guitar project. Overall size would be 13"Wx17"L. Anyone know where to get any pieces? I'd dye them myself but am concerned with bleeding. I want to sandwich them between two pieces of maple and not have them bleed. Also, any recommendations on glue for multiple veneer laminates?

. . and not have them bleed. !!! It's red, will most probably bleed. I suppose you could seal it with epoxy and let it cure first, THEN laminate with the lighter veneers.

Thanks. I think I'll laminate walnut to either side of the red then go with maple. Hopefully that will help minimize the appearance of bleeding. Any recommendations on a glue? The application will be 1/4" maple drop top, walnut veneer, two pieces red veneer, walnut veneer, figured maple body.

Polyurethane glue might not cause it to bleed - it is neither a water nor alcohol based material.
I would test on a scrap - you may be able to get it stuck to maple without bleeding.

I haven't used all the colors but haven't experienced any bleeding with the LMII veneers yet. If you decide to use a vacuum bag to clamp your laminations then you probably shouldn't use titebond if you are doing a lot of layers as there is no way for the moisture to escape and the glue won't set up for days.

I have purchased veneer from B & B Rare woods in Golden, Colorado. They have a wide selection of veneers in natural wood and dyed veneers. I bye veneer sheets and cut my own purfling strips. I'm currently working on a guitar using red purfling lines for the rosette and top, side and back purfling lines. The red is sandwiched between two white stripes for the rosette and top purfling and using LMII's white glue I have not seen any bleeding of the red into the white lines. I don't know if they have any 13 inches wide but you could mate narrower pieces side by side, probably only need two pieces.
