rosewood fingerboard

Post by brad barron »

hey guys

i'm making my second stewmac 000 kit - this time the rosewood version. I have made a few guitars / mandolins, ... but nothing with a rosewood fingerboard before. The grain is pretty open - should i fill the pores before fretting (like i do before finishing the sides)? My old rosewood Martin is nice and smooth but that may just be years of playing ground in.

The ebony fingerboards i have worked with in the past are very differnt - no pores visible at all.

I usually fill pores with pumice and alcohol. If i need to do something, will this method work?

thx for helping out - you guys are always great!

Rosewood fingerboards are normally left unfilled.
