McPherson "Picasso" guitar nut design?

Post by Kevin Stephen »

Anyone have any info about this design? Looks interesting, but it also looks like the D G string spacing is wider??? Unless that's just a photo distortion. It appears that the nut is used as a zero fret, without slots, & the block keeps the strings aligned. I like that, as it facilitates trying different string gauges & not having to worry about filing the nut. Anyway, just never seen anything like it. Cheers, kev

I think that things should work the way I expect them to.

It looks temporary. I am sure they will not keep that string spacing when they slot the nut.

Well, maybe they are trying for bizarre rather than functional. One can do such things with "art".

I just looked at a photo of picasso and its nut is standard with standard spacing. What i see in your photo is a set up jig - preslotting. I think the big space is to allow slotting with the strings in place, staring in the middle.
I like the idea and may try something similar.

One more thought on picasso itself, really conflicted with the back, love the art but hiding that much BRW under the art.
My guess there was a flaw in the wood and the art serves two puposes. If i could, would love to look inside.
Must say though it makes my top five " most beautiful guitars "
list. Hmm now the other four? Hmmmm.......

McPherson has some pretty unique top bracing, aong with their "cantilevered" neck design. Their neck design is very interesting too (non adjustable CF trussrod.)

They have some videos on YouTube describing their technologies...

Nut slotting guide! Interesting, and makes more sense than what I "saw" in the pic.
