It's of absolutely no importance from a practical point of view, but from a theoretical standpoint you can't specify arbitrarily your nut width + nut radius + fretboard end width + fretboard end radius and end up with a true conic section. One of these four variables has to be determined by the other three in order for it to be a true conic section.
But as I say, that's in theory ... in practice it is of course possible to get a perfectly accurate and functional compound radiused fretboard without it being a true conic section. And it's easy and quick to do it with only a handplane, by eye.
