Most of these necks do tend to come off dry with some wiggling. Always a happy moment when it separates easily with no damage.

As far as the "faux pearl" goes, this is celluloid and basically the same material as old drum covering. Drummers call this color "white marine pearl". In my experience (I've repaired two similar guitars), the celluloid is simply glued to the fretboard in pieces between the frets. It is NOT a single piece that the frets are installed through. So if it needs to come off, it is easy enough to just peel each piece off carefully with a razor blade and then glue them back after the repair.
