I've been listening a lot to Chris Thile's new record of Sonatas & Partitas by Bach (for violin, adapted for mandolin), since it came out a couple of months ago. I know the music well, since my daughter is a classical violinist, and the pieces are part of the standard training repertoire for violin students, so I'm familiar with several great violin recordings of it (not to mention various violin student's struggles with it!). Thile's 'take' on Bach is so refreshing, and its not just because of his unusual instrument!

He is playing in Edinburgh this week, as on of a handful shows over here in Europe; my wife and I are flying from Norway to Scotland Wednesday morning, and we have front row tickets, wohooo!

Arnt, you may also enjoy Robin Bullock's mandolin versions of Bach tunes, particularly the cello suites. A couple from YouTube

He is from around here, but currently lives in Paris. Hell of a nice guy, down-to-earth, and happy to jam with anyone.

I enjoy music of all genres. With some types I reach my saturation point more quickly than with others, but, the artistry of Mozart is beyond comprehension!

Recomposed By Max Richter Vivaldi The Four Seasons. Daniel Hope shreds. I share a lot of classical and new music, but my heart is in trailer trash Rockabilly and Country Western. Someone mentioned Lyle Lovett. KD Lang! Dude, The Devil´s Daughters! Bluegrass music is sometimes tolerable, but I´m was born to twang.

Paul, I started listening to Animals as Leaders just recently, after seeing Tosin Abasi on Rick Toone's website. He and Misha Mansoor do some great stuff together on those "Optimist" and "Pessimist" tracks. And Periphery is some heavy $#!+, too.

Arnt, I ran into Thile's Bach album this past summer while looking for some good Irish mandolin recordings. I found some just plain amazing mandolin playing, instead! Hope you enjoyed his show.

For Christmas I received some Charlie Hunter I didn't have (I have most of his), and an album of Percy Grainger's music for wind orchestra recorded by the Royal Northern College of Music. On Pandora and youtube, I've been listening to Dervish: they're one of the best traditional Irish groups out there today (in that generation after Seamus Tansy and the Chieftains and such).

I know I'm 5 years late to the party but I've really been blown away by the Dirty Projectors from NYC. I remember not getting it when I first heard them but now it's taken over a good portion of my listening time.

I build Selmer style, so naturally, for me, it is Jazz Manouche. Or is it the other way around? Anyhow, I'm a big fan of guitarist Adrien Moignard. Here's his trio Zaiti w/ Costel Nitescu, tearing up Django Reinhardt's DAPHNE.

Craig, do you know Gonzalo Bergara's music? That dude has crizazy technique! I love watching his picking hand.

At the moment, Slaid Cleaves. Not complicated but I like his style.
