I like the negative-space approach -- that's a neat idea. Here's my entry. It may be a little too Scooby-Doo for some folks, but I always pictured a more curvy, script-style logo than what's been proposed so far. Guitar-inspired m's, a violin/archtop-inspired f, and a headstock as the dot on the i. You could use fine wire of some kind to do the strings / tuners.

I really like that one also.(edit: refering to MIMF 2 a couple of posts ago.) I would not attempt to inlay that with shell.
I think we need to decide what medium we want to use before we pick a logo, or decide to pick a logo and use whatever medium it works with.
I've always been a fan of inlay, although decals have an illusion of representing mass production. Not sure whether that's good or bad.

I'm certainly guilty as charged re: the (in)feasibilty of inlaying my earlier posts with wood or shell. I'm not a huge fan of CNC'ing inlays, but I think that would have to be the method of choice.

Rodger's "Here's another idea..." post has really grown on me, especially its stealthiness. Once you see the MIMF it really jumps. Has made me smile each time I've come back to this thread. (As a compete aside, if that design were incorporated into a necktie it would be perhaps the coolest piece of apparel on the face of the earth.)

I like that. I was wondering about JC's for an inlay. Your's would be good for inlay and JC's for a decal.

I really like JC's 2nd one, nice work JC! And, to differ with everyone else, I don't think it would be too hard to implement in shell, although a bold/thicker font would certainly be easier (particularly for the ".com").
I vote for inlay as opposed to decal, I think we want to go "handcrafted" rather than "mass-produced".

I like DT's design, and it would work for inlay or decal. I'm with Greg on the inlay vs decal.
I'd like to point out that my design is scaleable, it can be stretched in either direction, as well as making the lines or gaps wider. The photo I posted shows everything stretched wide, I was trying to maximizie the shell.

The deadline came and went I do not see any mention of a winning logo. Which logo was chosen?

I really like Dicks clever approach as well..... with bit more stylized (and inlayable fonts), I think it offers great possibility for an eyecatching logo. (IMO, it should be over when there's a clear and indisputable "that's it...")

Been fooling with DTs approach...here's where I ended up. (I tried it with the more logical f-hole shape for the "F", but it always looked off.)

Dave, I like that one. It has all the curvy guitariness I was aiming for in mine, but it's a good deal better execution. Plus, you could inlay it.

Thanks everyone for their inputs. Upon further review, we've decided that there is no clear winner yet. To clarify what we're looking for:
1. We want to be able to inlay our new logo on the MIMF bass and other instruments, so (as a couple of you pointed out) it must be inlayable with a reasonable amount of effort.
2. It must contain MIMF *with* the ".com" (JC got this one right off the bat) in such a fashion that others can readily see and recognize it

We tended to like JC's and Dan's designs and Dave's variation on DT's design. The reverse designs were interesting and novel, but we found them a bit hard to read (at least so far).

I liked DT's sketch a lot and Dave's even more, so it's with apologies to both that I post this...

What's wrong with the "logo" as it appeared on MIMF T-shirts of old? Nice and simple, if I recall....

With apologies to DT and Dave, those are awful. Unless one knows what it is supposed to say, one doesn't have a clue, which works completely against the point of -having- a recognizable logo... Cool is one thing, but it still has to be commercially practical. The staff couldn't say it, but I felt it needed saying none the less. Please don't take it personally.

How 'bout this ...shades of Woodstock (..almost stuck the bird in ) One thing that's worth asking is the ultimate plan. If the intention was to get a few doz. CNC produced, to have on hand for MIMF projects, requests to puchase etc. it would permit a lot more detail/delicacy, in the font selection for example, than if it were to be only a pattern available for hand cutting. Just curious.

Fair enough, we need readable words. I present for your inspiration / entertainment / derision the Woodstock, the Atlanta Braves, and the BC rich. It occurs to me that we may just need something on the order of a simple script, like most folks use for their own instruments. Who's got good handwriting around here? If you use a known font, are there copyright issues to be dealt with? I'm actually liking the look of Matura MT Script Capitals font in MS word, with the first M capitalized and the rest lowercase.
