New octave mandolin
Three days ago I strunged up my latest octave mandolin. Today it was sold.....before I even had the time to take some real photos, just did some fast in the workshop.
It is totaly built with local wood from Switzerland where I happen to live since some years. I am trying to convince people about that it is very possible to build quality instrument also from more local wood than the wood coming from the rainforest. The addition of using shellac and hide glue makes me feel very enviroment friendly.... ( :
Top: Swiss alpine spruce
Sides, bacs and neck: Swiss alpine maple
Bindings and neckinlay: Cherry
Fretboad and bridge: Oak
Finish: Shellack on neck and shellack with a KTM ground on the body.
The action is easy adjustable by a adjustable neck angle (a´la Stauffer).

Very nice Tyko and kudos on the use of local woods. Nice touch on the end of the fretboard too.

It looks nice.
I love the headstock treatment.
Nice curves, easy access to the adjusting rod. Nice stripe down the middle.

Really like the detail at the end of the fretboard.

Really good job! I like the peghead, and it's an odd co-incidence but I am making an electric guitar with a peghead that's almost exactly like this one.

It looks like a first-class instrument and that maple is gorgeous.

Tyko, are those Rubner machines? Nice photos.
Re: New octave mandolin
Very nice! What is the scale length, and how big is the body?

Thanks for all comments!
The design of the end of the fret board is something I try to have on all my instruments. It isn´t really possible on my ukeles without any fretboard though.....
The scale is 520 mm and the body measurement are: 385 x 340 x 65-80
Yepp, it is mandolintuners from Rubner!
