Yea, I don't know how you make those bubinga carved backs, that is just plain crazy. And with a lot of figure at that!

Hi Barry, your "latest from my bench" is terrific and inspired me to post a question about my scroll carving struggles. Any chance you'd share what tool you're using to shape the back of the scroll? Scrapers, etc? My daughter often talks of wishing to try a 5-string violin someday - I noticed you've developed some nice 5-string designs.

Craig, I use gouges, files and scrapers to carve my scrolls. I use a chainsaw file to start the back side of the scroll at the top. Really exotic huh??? 5 strings are just about all I make because that is what all of my orders are for.
