Downloadable fonts

Post by Kurt Veltman »

I have apparently downloaded a papyrus/Parchment MF font. Does anyone know how I actually use it now?

If you save the font file into c:\windows\fonts it should be available to most windows based software.

Papyrus is a very pretty font but unfortunately you'll start to see it everywhere. Designers have sworn it off as of about 5 years ago when it was included in several top-ten overused/misused fonts. If your customer base doesn't include designers you might as well pile on along with everybody else that loves it to death.

I gave my stuff a Latin name (Sola Gratia) so I thought it would be an appropriate look, but I hate doing what everyone else is doing, so I might have to find something else. Thanks for the heads up David.

Alright, I tried to save this font in c:\windows\fonts, but when I click to download it, it goes directly into my "downloads" file, and I don't see a way to "Save File As" anywhere. Any suggestions?

Try right-clicking on the file in your "downloads" folder, click on "cut", then navigate to your c:\windows\fonts folder (via windows explorer) and "paste" the cut file there. You will find the "paste" function by right-clicking on the fonts folder and choosing "paste" from the dropdown menu. There are also keyboard shortcuts for "cut" and "paste" but I can never remember them--I think [control]c, and [control]p, or something like that.

Bill, I tried that, and it says that the file is either damaged or something else.

Nevermind...I didn't realize I needed to open the zipped file. Now it works. Thanks for the help.
