They must have been smokin' the good stuff to come up with that one. When I'm working with a bench plane I consider that to be some of the "quiet time" I value in woodworking. The last thing I want to hear is a vacuum cleaner roaring in the background. And I can't imagine the shroud and hose add much to the balance of the plane.
I assume this must have been an April fools joke.

On second look, so it is... <g>

Take the benefits of a quiet, free-roaming hand-tool and now teather it to a noise-maker :(

Do you call it a Power-Tool now? :?

If ever there could be an oxymoron in hand tools, that would be it... A solution without a problem. At least they're using a Festool vacuum...

Oh wait, it's the other way around.... a vacuum with a plane attachment?

Have you watched the video? If you haven't, go watch it and then actually try to order the thing...

Of course the ad came out on April 1st. Ha!

Quote:

GOTCHA!

This is number nine in our ongoing series of April 1st products. If you're interested in having a look at the previous eight, just search for "AFD" using the Item Search function on our website. While the Lee Valley Precision Story Tape is the only product that's actually available for purchase, each of the products depicted have actually been manufactured by Veritas®. Not only do they exist, they function exactly as we say: the tool belt really holds more than 500 pounds, the gang saw mechanism really functions as shown, and the trigger in the plane handle supplied with the No-Fuss Tool Shroud really does control the dust extractor, and so on. That's part of the fun – the tools have to be credible, and to be credible they have to work.
Have a happy April 1st!

Cheers,

The staff at Veritas® Tools

Does Chuck T. or David N. work for Lee Valley now? <g>
Barry increased the "stealth factor" by waiting until the 5th. to post the link.

As an interesting side note, dust collection attachments are being made for hand held power planes (Festool, Porter Cable, etc). What most of us would find anathema for a simple bench plane has found favor with the power plane users.

That is funny I like the way they show the shavings caught in the boot - in a way that they would never get up into the tube.

That is hilarious. I had a chance to go to the London Ontario Lee Valley store last November. They don't have Rockler or Woodcraft in Canada, but Lee Valley was a really nice shopping experience. They are staffed with people who know woodworking and you get very personalized attention. The London store even has a luthier working there. My experiences at my local Woodcraft and Rockler, though not bad, just don't compare. I just wish I had more money to spend when I was there!
