Pointy guitars

Post by Fernando Esteves »

I'm building a RR guitar and I'm thinking in to do a cut in the end of the points and glue a solid patch there.
The intention is to make it stronger and keep it from breaking, like all pointy guitars happens
What do you all think?
It's the red lines in the photo the place I want to do the reinforcement

Are you thinking of putting splines in those areas?

There is someone else on Facebook that has posted this same picture with the same question. What’s up with that?

Yes! Vertically or horizontally, don't know yet

Horizontal would probably be stronger.

I’d second that.

Having been a teenager back in the 80s, I saw a number of these pointy fellows suffer that fate. Owned a BC Rich “bitch” knockoff that took a different approach, its body was essentially plywood made up of 1/8” laminations. You could have driven railroad spikes in with that thing, it was bulletproof (and rather heavy).

Another doubt:
Does anybody know what is the path the channel of this jack makes till the control box?
And how they do it?

If by “that route” you mean splines, when you have the point notched out for the spline, and before you insert the spline, you should be able to start in the notch and aim a long drill bit such that it connects the jack recess with one of the other routed out areas.

If going “plywood”, it”s pretty easy to cut out your hidden recessed and paths from the inner layers before lamination and then hide them with the outer couple of lams.

Please don’t forget to share pics here on the MIMF as you go…

No, sorry I didn't explain correctly.

This jack drilling goes straight to the pickup cavity and then to the control cavity or it's drilled someway direct to the countrol cavity?

I've no idea how they make the wires get there 😬
