Robert Follett's Firebird V

Post by Robert Follett »

I have owned several Firebirds throughout the years but always ended up selling them. I got to the point where I wanted one again but they are just more money than I'm willing to pay now, even for the reissues. So of course I had no choice except to build one.

The construction is similar to the Gibson Firebird but not exactly the same. Mine is a 9 piece neck-through neck and body design vs. Gibson's 11. Gibson uses mahogany and walnut for materials and I chose black limba and hard maple. The finish is orange tinted nitro lacquer. Genuine Gibson pickups, Gotoh bridge and stop piece. The tuners are from Allparts.

Ooh, nice! The orange tinted lacquer looks great over the Korina, I wouldn't have ever thought to try that.

Very nice! I looked all over for those tuners and couldn't find them. I wound up using those horrible Steinberg tuners on my Firebird build (I like yours better, by the way). Can you post a link to the tuner source?

There was a guy selling the tuners on Ebay probably like 5 years ago. I snagged a set because I knew someday I would build one of these. I did a search recently too and could not find them anymore. :(
