guitar tops : wood grain orientation

Post by Jean-Philippe Regnard »

Hi
I have a question about electric guitar tops (Bookmatched tops).
I want to make mine from a live edge and lumber dealer. However, I don't know if there are restrictions about the wood grain orientation (in the thickness) to avoid deformation even if it's glued to the guitar body.
Thank you for you answers.

If its a drop top and highly figured wood I don't think it will make much difference as the grain direction will be all over the place anyway.

So long as it is properly seasoned I don't see why not.
