Re: Evan Kingma's electric 12 string [Pictures]
Samuel,
If you're planning on using a router with bearing pattern bit, people have problems even with lexan if the bearing isnt in top shape. It will cause too much friction and melt the plastic. I wouldnt even try poster board with CA as an experiment. Anything less than lexan is disaster waiting to happen.
Rockler should have spindle sanding drums that are chucked into a drill press. Even bearing pattern spindle sander is available- my father has one. Assuming you have a drill press. A couple different diameters should get you by fairly well. The Ridgid osc spindle sander is around $200 at home depot. I LOVE mine!
Back on topic, once again, very well done!

I have the ridgid sander and agree it is very useful, and not too bad a price.

I think if Jerry Garcia had seen that, he would have wanted it...

This would be too light for Jerry. I read that his main guitar was something like 13 pounds...Thomas Dooher wrote:I think if Jerry Garcia had seen that, he would have wanted it...
This one weighs in at 7.5 - not bad for a 12 string.

John,
Can you help me out with my 12 string? I've never set one up, and dont have one to reference. I'm using a 6 string TOM and will file string spacing into it.
What is the:
nut width?
Nut max string spread- (outer strings)
Bridge max string spread
Spacing between each string in a pair, at bridge and nut
Spacing between pairs at bridge and nut
Thanks,
Julian

Hi Julian - sorry for the delay... I haven't been on here for a few days.
I will have to check all this out when I get home... I don't recall all the measurements. I can tell you though, that we copied the string spacings at the nut from my 12 string Dano.

Wow, John. You should be very proud of Evan. Not just for his fine work, but for his tenacity, dedication, and focus. These are admirable qualities in anyone, let alone in a 16-year-old youngster. My hat's off to you both.
