Long Hiatus... New Tele Style Guitar

Post by John Kingma »

Hi Everyone. It seems to have been a few years since I posted here. A couple reasons are that my wife has been having a lot of health issues (which have been sorted for the most part) and I was also asked to be a moderator on another guitar forum. So time as been in short supply.

Anyway, I though I would post a guitar that I built myself a while ago. Here are some pics. I will post some details shortly.

The body is alder. I had a nice rosewood back and side set with some sapwood running through the middle, which was severely cracked. It wasn't suitable for an acoustic so I used it as a cap on the body and made a matching cap for the headstock.

The neck is Peruvian Walnut - which is such a joy to work with, The fretboard is Wenge - which is not a joy to work with. I think I still have splinters...

The cream binding and P90s look great with the sapwood.

I had a custom switch plate made...

I agree! That cream on the P90s is really great.

Awesome, you just gave me an idea for some cracked EIR. A tele is on my list and an EIR top would be perfect for it.

Looks great John. If you've ever worked with purple heart, it will give you a strong splinter run compared with wenge! :)
