Sometime this spring/summer, I'm hoping to pick up a Les Paul kit, with mahogany body and neck, flame maple top.
What I'm envisioning is a root beer or dark wine top, using the black-sand-back technique, finished with laquer clear, in rattle cans.
The back, sides, and neck, I'm thinking I'd like natural mahogany, or perhaps slightly darker. Would you recommend just spraying the clear laquer on the back and neck, or would you go with Tru Oil for the back and neck?
Also, the headstock is also mahogany. Would you finish it like the back and neck, or go with traditional black gloss?

Hi Gaston,
I would be inclined to stick with a single type of finish (either lacquer or truoil) for the whole guitar. Using two different finishes is "doable" but is more work.

I'm with Clay, it's hard enough to get one type of finish right.
There are people that prefer the feel of an oil finish on the neck, so it's not unusual to have lacquer on the everything except the neck, and oil on the neck.
You can do it however you're most comfortable. I used TruOil on my first, and it's still my first choice, but I don't spray finish.
