I'm thinking, because I have a top and back/sides set that are big enough, of making an 18" archtop in the classic style. I've heard that while these can be loud, they can lack a pleasing tone. There can be structural issues from making the top so wide. Has anyone made one, and have any thoughts to offer?

Re: 18" archtop issues?
I played a one once and found it awkward. I would have no use for one.

That is part of the problem, isn't it? They are kinda big.

From what I can see the only limit to how wide you can make an archtop is ergonomic. I've seen pictures of people playing the 19" ones and they tend to lay them down in their lap.
