Fretting a uke

I just got the uke fret wire and in cross section unlike the normal T it's more like an L.
This means the crown of the fret will not be centred to the fret slot.
I can offset either toward or away from the nut,
coin toss or is there a correct direction to offset?

what make/model of fret wire do you have? I've never heard of L section fret wire.

I'm red faced, after checking the stew Mac catalog, and seeing the T profile for the small gauge I went back to have a closer look at what I received, the manner in which the end was cut fooled me, the width is so narrow you barely see that's it's a T.
The tang width is .025 while the fret is .053 therefor .014 is the protrusion each side of the tang.
Regular is .083 ...protrusion .028 quite a difference.

If the fret wire truly was an L, it wouldn't make any difference which way you face it, as far as intonation goes. But you would have to be consistent with each fret.
