Email notification

Post by Kurt Veltman »

This is my first time here since all the changes. Any chance that responses to posts can be sent to our email (if this is not already the case). If this is already how things work, GREAT! If not, I think it would be a very handy feature, allowing people to read comments that come in on their phones, instead of having to log in here. Just an idea.

Hi Kurt,
If you are subscribed to a topic, you should get e-mails when there are new posts (but note, you must visit the new post before you'll get additional e-mails). Also make sure your spam filters are not blocking e-mail from this forum.

If I created the post, am I automatically subscribed? If not, how do I get subscribed?

There is a link above each discussion that says "Subscribe topic."

Okay, next question. I have subscribed to the threads I want to, and the notifications work well. Is there a way to open and read responses on, say, your cell phone, when they come in? I am thinking of the way facebook works, where if someone responds to a comment you made, or sends you a message, you can open and read it from your phone without logging in to facebook. Is this a possibility for this forum?

Well, if you have email push-notifications set up on your phone, and you can browse the web on it, that would be the simplest way. We don't have a mobile app at this point, but it has been discussed, and may be a possibility in the future.

Finally found the subscribe button. It's a tiny thing way down at the very bottom of the page. Been looking and looking. I guess using a Mac makes me sort of different sometimes.

Michael, is there not a "Subscribe" button right under the "New Topic" button on the left side, near the top of the page?

The placement of the buttons depends on which layout you are using. We currently have a choice of two and they put buttons and links in sometimes completely different places.

No button under the NEW TOPIC box. Tiny box at the very bottom of page for subscribing.

You have the default Prosilver layout, and yes, the Subscribe button is at the very bottom. It is a little more obvious in the other (Subsilver2) layout. If you want to see the difference, open up the User Control Panel, go to the Board Preferences tab, and change the layout design. You can always switch it back later.
