Nathan, I'm in Brasil. The only deeply figured top I have known and used from a local wood is Louro/Canela, wich is beautiful but still second to maple IMO, also it have a darker (yellowish) color than maple wich is not the best candidate for staining. I can import maple tops (for some reason you can't import every wood species) but they raise the price of the instrument quite a bit.

I'm usually an Anti Gold Hardware guy myself, it was done at the customer's request... I even tried to talk him out of it. But now that it's done I think it was a good choice for this guitar, it's pretty well blinged out...
