Arnt, I used to shoot as a boy and secretly want to make a bow now that I have discovered woodwork. But. . . I don't need another hobby right now and that would actually be two new hobbies (bow making and shooting). I'd love to see some of your work.

Hi Bryan, guitar building is both a hobby and work for me, as I mostly build commissions, with the usual deadlines, periods of grunt work, occasional difficult customer etc. Building bows is purely a fun hobby that I've enjoyed on and off since I was little, so I've never really bothered to make fancy, advanced or very pretty bows. Not sure I would want to show pictures of most of them, even if I had any... ;-) They are mostly primitive self bows made from various local woods, but I have experimented a bit with different profiles, lengths and designs, that is big part of the fun for me.

A few years back I manged to obtain a few staves of osage orange from the US, here's a picture taken during the tillering process of one I made this summer. This is one FAST recurve! Image

Lovely! Do you make your own arrows from all that spruce you have hanging around your neck of the woods? I tell myself that I wouldn't make a bunch of bows or go overboard but I know I wouldn't be able to stop myself. Hopefully I will retire someday and that day will be before I am too weak to draw a bow.

Arnt, you are too modest. That is some beautiful scraper work. It is obvious you have a good design in your mind.

I am fiddling around with my old amps, mostly German vintage stuff. And of course i am playing them...

Here one of my latest projects:
DSC_2898.JPG
The red amp is a Dynacord Eminent from 1967. Od version - all tubes (most of the amps were hybrid amp with valves just in the power section). Nominal 80/110 W from 2 EL34 running at nearly 800 V. It required a cap job, new bias trimmers, a rise of the input impedance to make it usable as a bass amp and a headshell (which has been taken from a totally defunct HiFi-favorit.

To the left of it my up to now largest project: restoring another old Dynacord (hybrid) amp, a larger one - G-2000, about 1972, 150/220 W (i.e. about 180 W "clean" with fresh valves and designing a preamp stage for it.

I've been building and flying some simple kites with my kiddo's, build from garbage bags and some bamboo sticks.
(see my-best-kite.com for good plans).

Also I try to play in tune chords on a fretless guitar and let my beard grow, so there's much to do!

I have not been here for a while. I've made clocks from old cymbals, lamps from old silver clarinets, and some doll stands for my daughter.

I recently finished this. I had a lot of help from my brothers and my wife, though.

Here's the latest distraction my wife has used to keep me away from instruments. she found a table and wanted a bench for one side. Of course they didn't make a bench to go with it....
Made her happy, and I was still able to sneak in a little binding work around the edge and keep up some French polish licks.

Great thread and i'm liking Bill Moll more and more !!
Ive got 20 guitars under my belt,In 25 years. raised a great son, Andy who is the driving force in my guitar building. Check his site here : www.proguitarshop.com
Ive built tube amps and stomp boxes and repaired old am radios, all for fun of learning. I spent ten years working for the best wood workers supply house in California Austin Hardwoods.
By trade Im a wood mite, I've been self employed forever. Most recently I've built a murphy wall bed in our guest room from figured cherry and an Armour/linen closet for my wife from curly red oak (hard to find curly red oak ). At this point in time Im remodeling our master bath. The fun continues.

You do know that Mr. Moll is no longer making guitars, right?

I recently made a new set of bedroom dresser/ end tables.
I also make game boards.
I need your help. I can't possibly make all the mistakes myself!

Besides making guitars I am really interested in repairing/collecting/using old woodworking/metalworking machines.
