Mummers Parade!

For those who do not know-

Philadephia Mummers parade on New Years day.

I think offhand it is well over 100 years and nobody knows when it started.

Shooters are called that cause used to shoot guns off. String bands use banjos and other instruments.

Clowns, Jockeys, Fancy divisions, captains, Two Street, You'll have to do some web research.

I don't I live in NJ 7 minutes from Philly. I guess the closest thing is Carnival Parade in Brazil which would be grander.

One guy at my job is in a Mummers club and will be marching tomorrow. They start planning their outfits right after the parade for the next year!

Oh Wenches- Up until about 5 years ago I think NO WOMEN allowed to march so men dressed as "wenches." P.S a lot of people at parade get tuned up. I remember a band getting ousted for booze on their float. Things have calmed slightly now though.

I had a mind blur. They usually put it all day here in NJ and Philly on TV. I was thinking Jerry Lewis MDA- since no Jerry the TV shows that telethon only for a few hours now.
