Gurdy-Dulcimer

If it's not a guitar or a bass guitar discussion, and it's got strings, put it here.

Gurdy-Dulcimer

Post by Josh Humphrey »

I have been asked to build this interesting instrument, a hybrid between a dulcimer and hurdy-gurdy. It is essentially laid out like a single-course dulcimer, with Partch-style movable bridges. But it will also feature a crank-operated set of three drone strings.

Here is the initial sketch, and I will post progress photos as well:

How many hands will it take to play it?

Interesting. Maybe you could build it with a stand and a treadle for the drones?
