Hi, recently I picked up 12" x ~1.25" curved tooth file at a yardsale. The teeth in the center are somewhat dull, but the ends are still somewhat sharp. I found that this file cuts quite nicely by shearing the wood fibers and it doesn't clog quickly. A new file would cost $35-50. I tried touching it up with some diamond cards and that helped a bit. I thought about giving it a dip in acid, but it seems that a commercial sharpening service works much better and isn't very expensive. Here's a business that has been recommended by many on the web:

Re: file sharpening service
Boggs sells new rasps and files that they've sharpened. The results are incredible. I highly recommend their presharpened Nicholson #49 and #50 furniture rasps.
The curved tooth files are another one of my indispensables. I'd love to get those sharpened some day.

Thanks for posting that Bob! I need to get a bunch of files and rasps sharpened, and have not looked up where yet.
