new resonator

Post by Bart Minnebo »

hey,

It's been a long time since I last posted here, but I check regularly. Anyway, I finished this one today!

Birdseye maple body, sipo neck, some rosewoodish fingerboard, padouk binding, national resonator cone.

I was able to build it in less than two months, which is a personal best. I had the maple for over three years as thick boards and wanted to use them for an archtop, but ended up slicing them up for this one, without regrets. The flatsawn maple gave me some stability problems, but worked out well in the end. I'm really pleased with the results, it's got a very nice tone from the national cone.

Thanks for looking,

Bart

Nice one, Bart.

What finish did you use to keep the maple so white?

Thanks, Bart. That was an answer I didn't expect! Which brand?

Even when using water clear nitro, I struggle to get the white/silver look. Even platina shellac gives an amber tint. Not unattractive, but also not "white".

Thanks again.

Maybe he forgot to set the "white balance" on his camera. <G>

Trevor: That would be rustin's danish oil. I rub it on with a rag and whipe off immediately after with a dry rag.

Thanks, Bart. I know a few guys using that brand/technique. Seems to work very well. Must try it one day!
